The Aigyptos Foundation was founded in the year 1995. Through this foundation, individuals and organisations interested in Ancient Egypt and its heritage can support Slovak Egyptology.
The aim of the Aigyptos Foundation is to support the development of Slovak Egyptology by all means available. It is a platform connecting people interested in the history and culture of Ancient Egypt, regardless of whether they are professional Egyptologists and Archaeologists, amateur historians or if they just like this fascinating Land upon the Nile.
The Aigyptos Foundation was founded by Mgr. Jozef Hudec, PhD. and Mgr. Dušan Magdolen, PhD. in 1995 in Zlaté Moravce-Žitavany. The address of the Aigyptos Foundation is:
957 01 Žitavany
The Aigyptos Foundation cooperates closely with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, where the Egyptological research is established. Furthermore, the Aigyptos Foundation is a member of The Egypt Exploration Society (EES) based in London and Egyptologists of the foundation are members of the International Association of Egyptologists (IAE).

The principal activities supported by the Aigyptos Foundation are:
Slovak Egyptological and archaeological mission in Egypt and Egyptological research in Slovakia: the Aigyptos Foundation, together with the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, supports the participation of Slovak Egyptologists and Archaeologists in the field on the site Tell el-Retaba in Egypt. This archaeological mission is carried out in cooperation with the Archaeological Institute of the University of Warsaw and the Polish Centre for Mediterranean Archaeology in Cairo. With the permission of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities, the joint Polish-Slovak mission has worked at Tell el-Retaba since 2007. The Aigyptos Foundation also supports Egyptological research in Slovakia and thus enables Slovak Egyptologists to join actively in the international Egyptological research aimed at exploring the Ancient Egyptian civilisation in its manifold development throughout the centuries.
Building up a scientific library for Egyptologists: the Aigyptos Foundation has received a donation of various publications from the Egypt Exploration Society (EES). A further development of the library has been possible thanks to the several year-long generous support from the Section for Higher Education of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic. Moreover, the Aigyptos Foundation, as the sole European organisation, has been given a grant from the International Association of Egyptologists to buy further publications. At present, our library comprises a unique collection of scientific Egyptological publications in Slovakia. It serves not only the needs of Egyptologists, but offers its service to students and the public as well.
Egyptological presentations and lectures for the public: the Aigyptos Foundation in cooperation with other Slovak and international organisations organises a series of Egyptological lectures for people interested in the history of Ancient Egypt. We support also other activities, for instance exhibitions etc. for the public.
