Egypt and Austria XIII

Call for Papers

After contemplations and hesitations, due to the pandemic, we have decided to go ahead with the Egypt and Austria XIII conference, which will take place at the Topoľčianky Manor House area, Slovakia (near Nitra) from Thursday, June 16 to Sunday June 19, 2022.
The conference will be organized by the Aigyptos Foundation and the Egypt and Austria Society in a venue connected to the Habsburgs, Aegyptiaca and Lady Hilda Mary Isabel Petrie (wife of the pioneer of Egyptian archaeology, Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie), under the title:

Between the treaties of Sistova and Lausanne: Contacts between the Orient and Central Europe in the 19th and early 20th Centuries

Scholars with interest in the research of the interactions between the states of the former Habsburg Monarchy and the Ottoman Empire are invited either to confirm their intention to take part in the conference or to join the registered participants from the pre-Corona first call. The main topics will be: history of Egyptology, Oriental studies, travellers, history of collections, Egyptomania, art, music, philosophy, politics, economy and sciences, etc.
The conference will be structured by papers of 20 minutes and 10 minutes` discussions on each paper. The conference language will be English.

Please, kindly submit an abstract at aigyptos@aigyptos.sk of about 200 words and three keywords, mentioning in the headline the author´s name(s) and surname and the title of the presentation/ paper. The submission is prolonged until May 8, 2022. Notification of acceptance will be sent by May 15, 2022.

The registration fee includes conference materials, coffee breaks, conference dinner and a guided tour. Sights and accommodation possibilities are enclosed separately. Current COVID-19 regulations will be communicated to all participants 10 days before the beginning of the conference.
